Abstract

Throughout most of the world, populations are moving from sparsely settled rural areas into complex and densely crowded urban regions. Onlya generation or so ago, 80 percent of the people in the United States lived in a rural-oriented economy. Within the present generation, we shall find the reverse to be true. By 1975 or 1980, 80,percent of our population will be living in urbanized areas of metropolitan status.
