Abstract

Providing telematic services to the mass market is the core business of T-Traffic, the Traffic Telematic division of T-Mobil. These services are traffic information, safety services, navigation, content information and car-related services. Service sequences and content are largely geared to the technical capabilities of different technological platforms, i.e. hardware devices. Different technical platforms can be characterized by the accuracy in the individual localization, by the data transfer rate and by various communication features. These characteristics - summarized in the dimension "scope of information" - determine largely what kind of telematic service can be provided to the end-user. The service itself is mainly characterized by the dimension "information supply", i.e. the level of up-to-dateness and the level of individualization of the information. With respect to the end-user experience a telematic product is always a combination of telematic service and hardware performance and can be mapped on these major dimensions "information supply" and "scope of information" thus indicating the growth path for service provider, hardware developer and the market in total. As a consequence a close cooperation between service provider and hardware developer is necessary in order to boost the market on the basis of common standards.
