Abstract

Aqueducts are a neglected part of U.S. transportation heritage. There are two basic type of aqueducts: water-supplying conduits and navigational canals. It is the point of view of the author of this article, a respected bridge design engineer, that these aqueducts merit a coordinated identification and preservation effort.
