Abstract

A retrospective quasi-experimental reversal design exami-ned the effects of increases and decreases in police traf-fic enforcement on the frequency and severity of trafficaccidents in a metropolitan area. The findings questionthe utility of traffic enforcement crackdoams as a publicsafety measure, and demonstrate that temporary lapses insuch enforcement have no documented detrimental effects.
