Abstract

Porsche, as part of its research activities in the EUREKA Programme PROMETHEUS sponsored by the Federal Minister for Research and Technology in Germany, has developed a system capable of making a prognosis of the friction potential at the tyre/road interface, i.e. the maximum grip level. In addition Porsche has also been investigating the PROMETHEUS function of autonomous intelligent cruise control (AICC). Initial proposals on how to enhance the AICC function using tyre/road friction monitoring and AICC have been developed, aimed at further improving the functionality and acceptance of the AICC system.
