Abstract
POETIC (Portable Extendable Traffic Information Collator) is a prototype system which has been designed to automatically collect information from police incident logs, and to determine which incidents may introduce or alter traffic congestion. It creates suitable warning messages for motorists, and presents them in a form suitable for broadcast. Incidents are monitored throughout their lifetime, and the messages distributed are altered accordingly. This paper discusses the system architecture, recent results achieved, and the possible extension of the system to languages other than english. (A)
