Abstract

The energy efficiency of dual mode transit system (DMTS) is expected to be 10 to 20% lower than of the transit bus and rapid rail. DMTS's future energy conservation role is related more to the level of service provided than to the inherent efficiency of the DMTS vehicle. By providing high-speed, no-transfer, point-to-point service throughout the urban area, DMTS has the potential of attracting significant numbers of people who are currently using the energy-intensive passenger car.
