Abstract

This paper seeks to outline the issues associated with the adoption of video based incident detection technology within a modern high-speed road tunnel. It seeks to examine in some concise detail the advantages of a video approach in comparison with more traditional inductive loop based vehicular detection technologies in addition to highlighting various technical issues that had to be resolved with regards to this particular project in South Australia, including; system performance and specification; system detailed design; systems interfacing; and installation, commissioning and operation.
