Abstract

The determination of the field factor that relates the visibility conditions in the laboratory to the visibility conditions for a car driver approaching the entrance of a long tunnel is discussed. Experimental results are given from research in the netherlands. Suggestions are given for incorporation of these results in design methodsfor the lighting of tunnels. This paper appears in transportation research record no. 1327, Visibility, rail-highway grade crossings, and highway improvement evaluation 1991
