Abstract

The City of Inglewood has been pro-active in the design and deployment of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technologies to alleviate the growing citywide and region wide traffic problems over the past few years. Through its multi-phase multi-jurisdictional ITS Program, the City has designed and deployed more than 15 miles of fiber, several Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and video detectors on major arterials, a digital communication system, and a Traffic Management Center (TMC) for the centralized control of the City's 135 signals. However, the solution for regional and subregional traffic management is not simply the sum of the individual and local element improvements.
