Abstract

The importance of urban railways lies in their ability to move large numbers of passengers in peak periods into the CBD's of big cities and to distribute the traffic within the central area. Some of the features of the presently operating networks are analyzed from a review of 51 of the systems of the cities in the world that operate such underground or metro systems.
