Abstract
The traffic volume on our roads increases from year to year. A result of that situation is that accidents within the area of road works on motorways have serious effects. When looking at accidents with road barriers installed to block a lane in the case of road works, these accidents are in most cases a result of fatigue and carelessness of the driver. Especially accidents caused by heavy vehicles lead to injured and killed road repair personnel. In case of a crash of a heavy vehicle with a road barrier a split second is vital. The Road Work Protection System is used to warn personnel with an acoustic signal in the case of an approaching heavy vehicle on the blocked lane.
