Abstract

On the basis of a review of existing risk models, a hierarchical risk model of traffic participants was developed. in this model the concept of risk is clearly defined and an explicit distinction is made between the probabilities and consequences of the outcomes of behaviour alternatives. in the second part of the paper the model is illustrated by means of the speed choice and overtaking behaviour.
