Abstract

Bandung is located about 200 kms from Jakarta, and easily reached by using train, bus, or private vehicle within 2.5 hours during the weekdays and 1.5 hours during the workdays. Unfortunately during the weekends and long holidays there are long and tedious queues of traffic. To solve the problem, the Provincial Government of West Java plans a toll road network system as part of Greater Bandung Intra Urban Toll Road. This paper describes an important combination in analysing both LANDSAT TM and SPOT satellite imageres by using GIS (Geographical Information System) and DTM (Digital Terrain Modelling) for the purpose of selecting route location. Maps can be produced such as contour maps, morphology maps, angle of slope maps, drainage pattern maps, land use maps, infrastructure and human settlement maps, shaded ridge maps, and 3D maps showing potential landslide hazards. Furthermore, when the alternative route locations can be seen, by using an animation model the best alternative may be seleeted depending on the specific requirements adopted. This method will ensure efficiency, flexibility and adaptability as well. (a) For the covering entry of this conference, please see ITRD abstract no. E214938.
