Abstract

In order to grasp the present situation of pedestrian accident in Japan, national statistical data on traffic accidents are analyzed and in- depth case studies on traffic accidents which involved 113 pedestrians against front portions of bonnet type cars are conducted. As a result, it is found that the age group of 60 years or older account for about half of the fatalities, and that passenger cars account for 60% or so of four- wheelers involved in those accidents.
