Abstract

New guided urban transport systems are proposed as an intermediate offer between bus and tramway. Most of these systems are on tyres and enable both automated and driver steering. Another system is a light rail system, aimed at intermediate traffic volumes between 1,000 and 4,000 travellers per hour and at an approximate cost of 8 million US dollars per km. This paper looks at these systems and discusses the diversity of functional approaches, as well as cost analysis for the systems under planning and already on order for France. The English title of the paper is: "Comparative overview of new guided urban transport systems in France".
