Abstract

A new version of the Swedish computer program for capacity calculations is introduced by the Swedish National Road Administration. The program handles roundabouts as well as other types of intersections. The calculation method is based on the theory of gap acceptance and includes the following steps: calculation of major flow and critical gap, correction of critical gap, calculation of service time, lane allocation, short lane correction and calculation of performance measures. The major problem with the program is the lack of measurements of traffic behaviour and the gap parameters. In spite of this the program works fairly well and gives reasonable results. The program is written in Turbo Pascal for IBM/PC and compatibles. (A)
