Abstract

Working in the principle that 90% of accidents could be prevented if braking occurred one second earlier, the development of a system to prevent collisions at road junctions with poor visibility is described. The system would warn the driver, but if action were not taken, vehicle braking would be activated automatically. Inter-vehicle communication using the diffraction of an electric wave is proposed and the mathematical calculations are outlined. The VHF band was considered appropriate for this purpose.
