Abstract

From this study it appears that those effects of ethanol which differ from those produced by other CWS depressants, i.e. brain glycogenolysis and decrease of coenzyme A, are due to acetaldehyde, formed by alcohol dehydrogenase liver and brain. These effects were investigated in mice treated either with ethanol alone or with ethanol + pyrazole, which is a very potent inhibitor of alcohol dehydrogenase. The processes possibly involved are discussed.
