Abstract

The European project WATCH-OVER has been co-funded by the European Commission Information Society and Media within the initiatives of cooperative systems for traffic safety and efficiency based on communication and sensortechnologies. The project, supported by EUCAR, has been coordinated by Centro Ricerche Fiat and included in its consortium vehicle and motorcycle makers, automotive technology suppliers and research centers for the design, development and testing phase. The project outcome, presented in this paper, is the availability of a modular cooperative system utilizing vision and communication technologies to prevent accidents that involve vulnerable road users, including motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians.
