Abstract

After an historical survey and an analysis of the crash protection problem as a whole, the author makes a detailed study of the effects of crashes on the human body and the means to avoid injuries. Conclusions are presented in the form of five design principles for vehicles, seats and restraining systems. In particular, suggestions are advanced for replacing webbing restraints by isovolumetric systems.
