Private involvement in road and rail infrastructure is relatively unknown in the Netherlands. Some bad experiences with the use of private finance in a number of tunnel projects have muted the discussion for some time. The need for funds and efficient use of scarce resources has revived the discussion. In this paper an attempt is made to bring forward some important arguments for and against the involvement of private parties in infrastructure projects. In addition, some attention is given to aspects that hinder the implementation of private involvement in infrastructure. (A)
