Abstract

The activity of the enzyme gamma- glutamyl transpeptidase, measured at the time of arrest may be a simple way of identifying drivers at high risk of being alcohol dependent. This study compares concentration of alcohol in the blood and the activity of the enzyme with information from a questionnaire sent to the driver's general practitioner. The predictive value, sensitivity and specificity of blood alcohol concentration and enzyme activity are given.
