Abstract

This article presents a model investigation in the form of an analysis of problem drivers who have become involved in legal proceedings as a result of their behaviour at the road. The problem driver is a contemporary phenomenon whose personal faults in conjunction with technical difficulties and situational problems, which lead to fortuitous constellations with other road users, cause, dangers to arise for the person concerned or for others. There are three groups of problem drivers. Firstly, suffering from disorders, particularly those involving sudden attacks and all forms of brain defects. Secondly, those whose problem is a result of character and constitution. Youthful and aging drivers provide the transition to the third group, the normal problem drivers. Any normal road user can become a problem driver. The main factors in this connection are alcohol, overtiredness, distraction from the immediate road traffic situation through personal conflicts.
