Problems in vehicle safety legislation.

Abstract

Some of the trends in vehicle safety and associated legislation worldwide are reviewed. It suggests that road accidents can be viewed in epidemiological terms; some of the salient features of traffic injuries are outlined, and parallels are drawn between vehicle safety legislation and other public health measures. The part which can be played by research in resolving the accident causes is outlined.
