Abstract

This conference was the 13th in a series of road safety conferences starting in 1987, then with emphasis on the two continents Europe and North America. Since then the concept has broadened to include also Africa and Asia. The main objective of the conference was to explore emerging research and developments in the area of road safety. Special attention was given to the application of research and also to involve developing countries and countries in transition in the event, both as presenters and as delegates. A major theme of the conference was the pros and cons of research done in the north hemisphere applied to problems in the south. For abstracts of the individual papers see ITRD E217781 to E217912.
