The Seminar Proceedings highlight two international databases that form the foundation of the Road Transport Research Programme's Information exchange activities. The International Road Research Documentation (IRRD) is a unique co-operative system which provides a mechanism for systematic, world-wide exchange of information on scientific and technical literature and current research programmes. Its goal is to collect and disseminate all information of interest on road transport research. The International Road Traffic Accident Database (IRTAD) provides a compilation of accident statistics from OECD member countries. IRTAD is an invaluable resource for benchmarking and evaluating the effectiveness of of road safety programs. The OECD strongly encourages their use. Road and transport officials are also encouraged to use other information resources such as PIARC's World Interchange Network - designed to "put people with problems in touch with people with solutions"- or the Transportation Division of the Special Libraries Association which are described in the Proceedings. The following section on Conclusions and Recommendations lays out the specific areas where the participants believed action could make the most significant contribution to the development of information and documentation systems in the CEECS.
