Abstract

The conference was organised jointly by the Australian road research board and the Australian department of transport. Papers presented illustrate the need to make adequate provisions for the mobility and safety of pedestrians, and deal with the Australian scene (facilities and management) prediction of pedestrian traffic, pelican crossings, schoolchildren pedestrian protection measures (including education), pedestrian refuge islands as replacements for marked pedestrian crossings, grade separation crossings, pedestrian accidents, traffic regulations for pedestrian safety, driver behaviour and conflict at pedestrian crossings, and education of older pedestrians.
