Abstract
This article describes the use of certain machines in producing high quality concrete paving at airports. Minnich Manufacturing has developed a dowel pin drilling machine. Remotely operated, it installs five dowel pins simultaneously, with a quick change depth adjustment system. The operator can stand at ground level with a good view of the drills. GOMACO Commander III machines have been used to slipform pave airport runways. Other GOMACO machines have been used in the USA, achieving high accuracy. A major upgrade with a limited timescale was carried out in Trinidad using Power Paver machines from Airside Industries to extend aircraft stands to US specifications.
