Abstract

The Motor Vehicle Program Plan has been re-evaluated and revisions have been made to ensure that planned rulemaking actions will meet established guidelines. These guidelines specify that rulemaking plans should increasingly emphasise performance requirements and that existing standards which specify design type requirements should be phased out as soon as possible. Passive restraint systems and performance requirements for safe vehicle handling and stability characteristics have priority.
