Abstract

Recent progress in electric and hybrid vehicle development is examined and those areas where additional work is needed to prove the availability of electric and hybrid vehicles as alternate modes of private transportation are identified. Public acceptance of these vehicles for widespread use will depend upon the levels of performance, reliability and life cycle cost which are demonstrated.
