Abstract

This paper describes four proposals for new road education programmes in the Netherlands. These proposals are as follows: (1) the traffic and transport behaviour module for secondary vocational education; (2) a supplement to the driving training programme for agricultural schools; (3) the traffic and transport behaviour module for preparatory vocational education; and (4) the moped module for special secondary education. The elements from existing programmes can be used, when compiling the new programmes. However, these elements should be adapted in order to suit the individual training requirements. The programmes will form a part of the qualification requirements for further education, as far as possible. The programmes have been developed in consultation with a number of schools. These schools had already taken initiatives in order to design programmes in keeping with their own curriculum. In addition, the Regional Organizations for Road Safety in the Dutch provinces of Friesland and of Zeeland were both invited to participate in the consultation. The development of the new programmes was made feasible by the Ministry of Transport.
