Abstract

This is a report on the planning and development work (phase 1), which preceds the main study (PILOT). The aim of the project is to offer further education to young drivers aged 18-24 on a voluntary basis, where the content of the course is focused on increased safety margins in traffic. The aim of the first phase of the project is to: (1) study the recruiting population prior to a main study; (2) develop the content and design of further education; and (3) state whether a main study can be realised and in that case present a proposal for disposition and realisation. The results from two preliminary studies are reported. The first tested how different invitations to the course influenced interest in participating in interest in participating in further education. In the second study a new attempt was made to study the recruiting population. This time, only one type of invitation was tested and the content and design of the course were stated more precisely. The results showed that the proportion of persons interested in the main study could amount to about 50%. The report also describes the development of the course content. The result was four test courses, where the content was tested on young persons. The conclusions of the first phase of the project are that the prerequisites of realising the main study as planned are judged to be sufficient concerning recruitment as well as design and content of the course.
