Abstract

This book is intended to encourage cycling and other leisure pursuits by making them safer. In many activities, head injuries spoil the fun for tens of thousands of those taking part - yet they are preventable by the use of helmets. As part of the World Health Organisation's initiative to get helmets on to people's heads the European Consumer Safety Association (ECOSA) was funded by the Commission of the European Communities to undertake four initiatives to increase helmet use. The first was a conference in 1993 entitled "Helmets for All". The other three initiatives were publications to provide information and advice to various audiences, of which this book is one. This publication is aimed at giving well researched advice to cycle retailers throughout Europe on what they can do to promote helmet use, especially among cyclists. (A)
