Abstract

The Canadian Institute of Transportation Engineers (CITE), with the assistance of IBI Group, has developed a guidebook to help municipalities and the land development industry better design non-residential development sites to promote accessibility by travel modes other than the single-occupant vehicle (SOV). Promoting Sustainable Transportation Through Site Design, which was published as an Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) proposed Recommended Practice in January 2005, also identifies a range of supporting actions and policies that jurisdictions can introduce to create an atmosphere conducive to sustainable transportation initiatives. This paper provides an overview of the report and describes the guidelines in more detail. (Author/publisher) For the covering entry of this conference, please see ITRD abstract no. E213531.
