Personal mobility is closely linked to independence and participation and is therefore an important occupation enabler. Community mobility refers to the extent to which an individual is able to travel within their community in accord with their needs and preferences. Occupational therapists have an important role in supporting community mobility, particularly for individuals with impairment and activity limitations. In this article, the authors propose that occupational therapists need to become more active in addressing aspects of mobility participation by: • Considering road safety implications of mobility • Applying a systems framework to mobility related risk management, injury prevention and health promotion • Engaging strategically, with individuals and at com-munity and population levels. The authors believe that these measures will promote a more inclusive model of health with a focus on optimal function and safe occupational engagement. (Author/publisher)
