Abstract

Computer systems equipped in vehicles, such as AutoPC and Connected Car PC, have been proposed recently to contribute to improving road transport safety, efficiency and comfort. These systems generally provide drivers with some information through relatively slow cellular phone networks. While high performance digital broadcasting for mobile users will be available in a few years, the drawback of broadcast delivery methods is the need for users to wait for the required data items to appear on the broadcast channel. In this paper, an algorithm is proposed for transmitting and caching location dependent data that are usually managed on in-vehicle computer systems, through multiple communication media, such as digital TV / radio broadcasting, dedicated short range communication (DSRC), advanced cellular phone networks, and so on. The algorithm enables users immediate access to required data, and keeps the memory usage small to cache data. (A*)
