Abstract

Each year about 7900 pedestrians, 1000 bicyclists, and 100 school bus passengers are killed in motor vehicle accidents in the USA. The combined total (9000 fatalities) represents 19% of all motor vehicle fatalities. NHTSA's good of providing effective countermeasures, guidance, and technical assistance to States and communities will help improve the effectiveness of programs to reduce these kinds of accidents. The program plan addresses urban and rural pedestrian accidents, bicycle/motor vehicle accidents and school bus accidents.
