Abstract

The young driver problem is one of the substantial traffic death and injury. At present, young drivers aged 16 to 24 have about trice as many fatal accidents as would be expected. The purpose of this plan is to present the NHTSA program to reduce the most number of young drivers involved in highway accidents. The scope of this program does not begin with the licensing of young drivers at age 16 but includes safety activities, particularly educational projects, directed at the younger, pre-driver groups.
