It has a population of about 10 million journeys are made daily and %90 percent of which are on the highways. Annual cost of 2,5 million tons of asphalt concrete paved on main arteries is approximately $ 75 million. Production of this huge amount of asphaltic concrete is realised by Istanbul Asphalt Factories Co. (ISFALT) a company belongs to Istanbul Municipality The primary purpose of this paper is to investigate the applicability of coloured asphalt on streets and on the other fields of Istanbul. For this purpose, colouring additives provided from abroad and Turkey were mixed in asphaltic concrete which is made up of local bituminous binders and aggregates. Experimental and theoretical studies have been carried out in order to make comparison on various points of view like strength, economy and aesthetics. (A)
