By the year 2000, the probable features of passenger car design will include few surprises. Continued evolution of the spark ignited engine will lead to improved efficiency and power output. Transmissions will be better matched to engines and vehicle drag, through improved aerodynamics, may be halved. Electronic management of nearly every facet of vehicle operation will be a significant change. New opportunities concerning limiting vehicle speeds and acceleration rates are highlighted as part of improved integration of the vehicle into the traffic system.
