Abstract

In Japan car ownership increased steeply in the 1950's, bringing serious problems, such as traffic accident, noise, pollution and vibration. These problems have become serious not only in arterial streets of city centres, but also in residential areas and streets. Some of the experiments of traffic restraint in Japan are presented briefly.
