Abstract

Congestion problems bring about new measures. In the note "Better usage, less congestion" it is explained that well and effectively distributed information to the road user leads to better utilisation of the network of roads. The note also discusses a potential reduction of 20% in vehicle loss hours. Besides a better utilisation, good traffic information also contributes to an increase of reliability in the road system, as it enables road users to predict their travel time. Traffic information can also contribute to the improvement of road safety, especially when it concerns information on weather conditions.
