Abstract

The four related papers in this study explore the relationships of driver psychology to the traffic flow. One paper describes the speed patterns of 20 drivers who were observed on a single lane road (See A 7122). The second paper describes the actions of 166 drivers who were involved in delays in freeway traffic (See A 6065). The third paper discusses driver motivation, expectancy and anticipations. (See B 877). The final paper presents the implications of the previous studies and related researches for traffic flow theory.
