Abstract

The consequences of road accidents are discussed in relation to ways of reducing them. The psychology of the road user is outlined with particular reference to vehicle drivers. The interaction between driving task demands and driver capability is explored with reference to selection of speed and other factors. A simplified representation of risk homeostasis is provided.
