Abstract

The Public Information System (PIS) system architecture provides the framework around which detailed design, specifications and interfaces can be defined. The PIS system architecture may also be seen as a tool which helps the common understanding and analysis of a complex system by describing at a suitable level of detail the different technical, environmental, institutional and economical aspects of such a system. The main systems and services that are provided to the users through PIS are: dynamic multimedia systems offering interactive services and updated information; variable message signs; satellite based communication; management information systems; and communication and information exchange.
