Abstract

Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) carried out market research in 2008 to gauge the community's understanding of on-road and in-vehicle ITS technology. This survey showed that with the exception of airbags and ABS there was limited understanding and knowledge of both in-vehicle and on-road ITS initiatives. The survey further found that the penetration of in-carITS technology with the exception of front airbags and ABS was extremely low. A paper entitled ITS Innovations in Transport What is the Communitys view? was presented to the 15th World ITS Congress in New York. As a consequence of the findings in this survey, RACV is undertaking a major public issue campaign to accelerate the development, deployment and uptake of Intelligent Transport Systems in Victoria, Australia.
