Abstract

The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) of NSW has developed a Public Transport Information and Priority System (PTIPS) for the purpose of facilitating a smooth movement of public transport vehicles by providing them with priority at signalised intersections. PTIPS is also intended to provide public transport passengers and fleet operators with information regarding the states of the public transport vehicles. PTIPS is a successor to a prototype Bus Information and Priority System (BIPS) that was developed at the University of Technology, Sydney and funded by the RTA This paper presents an overview of PTIPS, its features and capabilities, and the systems with which it interacts.
