Abstract

This paper aims at establishing a specific frame of reference for analysing the infrastructure of urban transports. It includes sociological concepts and seeks to highlight the infrastructure in relation to urban social conflicts, demonstrating its social significance. The paper shows evidence of the need for a greater theoretical effort concerning urban public transport, emphasizing that a technical analysis is not by itself sufficient for a clear definition of problems arising from the combined effect of several modes of transport within the urban environment.
