Abstract

Two methods of achieving a high level of service and hence reducing the disparities in travel conditions between public and private transport are either rail rapid transit or a system of busways. Busways imply buses operating on exclusive rights of way totally free from conflict with other traffic and providing a limited stop service. There are various possible ways of operating a busway type service. These are outlined. A comparison is between busways and rapid transit rail system is also drawn.
